Elderly Man Murders Wife, Then Commits Suicide

The Wellbrook Transitional Rehabilitation center assists individuals who are recovering from illness or injury by providing a range of services including medical care and rehab therapies. However, the center is in the news recently for a far-more grim reason than rehabilitation. A tragic crime recently left two people at the center dead.

How Did This Criminal Event Happen?

A married couple in their 80s died last Wednesday morning at the center of what police are calling a “murder-suicide.” Nursing staff from Wellbrook telephoned police at approximately 9:30 a.m. after hearing gunshots from somewhere inside the facility. They then discovered the source of the shots after they entered the elderly man’s room and found him and his wife dead together.

Police Report Events Like This Not Uncommon

Police responded and when questioned by reporters said this type of incident is not unlikely among the elderly.

“If it’s in reference to the elderly and there are health issues, yes. Those type of things they don’t want to leave a loved one behind, so they make a plan to go together sometimes,” said Sgt. Matthew Sanford.

The Facility Responds

Welbrook released the following statement:

“First of all, Welbrook Centennial Hills wants to express their sincerest condolences to the family of the victims involved in this tragic event. At present time, the facility is cooperating fully with Metro Police Department as they conduct their investigation, and are providing any information or assistance needed. We are unable to comment with particulars related to this event both because it is still an ongoing investigation and also in relation to HIPPA privacy laws. Mainly though, we again express our condolences to the family.”
